The DC Universe will introduce new iterations of the heroes audiences know and love through the big screen, television and video games, under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new franchise will continue to expand with a new Teen Titans feature film, based on the team of the same name that was first introduced in the pages of “The Brave and the Bold” comic books. In most iterations of the characters, the young sidekicks take matters into their own hands by forming a team, stepping out of the shadows of the established heroes who trained them.
Gunn and Safran continue to plan the narrative that will be told across the multiple installments of the DC Universe. And judging by their previous decisions, the duo likes to stick around with talented artists that bring something new to the brand. Ana Nogueira, the screenwriter behind the upcoming Superman: Woman of Tomorrow, has been hired to write the screenplay for the Teen Titans movie. Before working on the Supergirl story starring Milly Alcock, Nogueira was writing a movie featuring Sasha Calle‘s version of the character for Warner Bros., until that story was scrapped in favor of the introduction of the new DC Universe.
Just like the Justice League, the Teen Titans have continued to change their roster over the years, with different heroes and villains joining the organization depending on the story being told on the pages of DC comic books. No characters have been confirmed for the upcoming Teen Titans film written by Nogueira, meaning that the screenwriter, Gunn and Safran still have time to figure out which heroes will be a part of the team in this iteration. Other movies set in the DC Universe that were announced before Teen Titans include The Authority, The Brave and the Bold and Swamp Thing.
The Most Popular Version of the ‘Teen Titans’
Many years before James Gunn and Peter Safran were hired by Warner Bros. to bring their own version of the DC Universe to life, Cartoon Network launched Teen Titans, an animated television series that followed a major rivalry between the team and Deathstroke (Ron Perlman). The roster of the young team included Robin (Scott Menville), Starfire (Hynden Walch), Raven (Tara Strong), Beast Boy (Greg Cipes) and Cyborg (Khary Payton). Teen Titans ran for five seasons, and a movie connected to the cartoon was released after the show was over. It remains to be seen if the animated series’ days as the most popular adaptation of the title are counted, once the Teen Titans film is launched by Warner Bros.
